  Open Water Diver

Professional Association Diving Instructors

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the one that everyone wants and it is recognised the world over. It is a liftime qualification with no other fees or memberships to pay, but I bet you don't stop there. It teaches you the knowledge and skills you need to dive with a buddy, independent of supervision.

The course consists of 5 pool dives followed by 4 Open Water dives under the supervision of an instructor. During the course you will also build your knowledge by working from the Open Water Diver manual. The Open Water dives can be carried out at the National Dive Centre at VobsterQuay or preferably on the South Coast.

As a PADI Open Water Diver you are qualified to:

  • Dive with a buddy independent of supervision while applying the knowledge and skills you have learnt in this course, within the limits of your training and experience.
  • Obtain air fills, scuba equipment and other services.
  • Plan, conduct and log open water dives when properly equipped and when accompanied by a buddy in conditions with which you have training and experience.
  • After qualifying, discuss with me or your instructor how to continue your dive training, maybe with a specialty dive (Adventure Dive), in the PADI Adventures in Diving program or in PADI Specialty courses.
